MIROMENIL, Jean. General map of the Department of Mozelle divided into ( ) Districts designated under different colors according to the Arreté des Députés du Département de Metz du 29 X.bre 1789 Moselle, 22 June 1790. Boundaries in col. old. Handwritten map made with pen and ink wash, enhanced with watercolor in red and blue. Divided in 16 sections, canvas (blue cloth) and folded in a case. Stamp in the upper right corner scratched, illegible. Green morocco case, gilt lace gilt lace framing the boards. Case a little rubbed. 540 x 845 mm. "General map of the Department of Mozelle divided into ( ) Districts designated under different colors, according to the Arreté des Députés du Département de Metz du 29 X.bre 1789 / Vü et approuvé au Conseil d'Etat de sa Majesté et signé by his Order the Dupin tower / Reduced and drawn by Jn. Miromenil Draftsman of the Bridges and Roads of the said Department, of June 22, 1790". Scale of Ten Thousand Toises. The roads are shown in red ink. Ornamented in top on the right of a title cartouche in a frame of foliage and still surmounted of the royal escutcheon. Important handwritten map of the department of Moselle by Jean Miromenil, perhaps the first to represent the department the department created in 1790 from the episcopal principality of Metz and the provinces of Lorraine and Bar. It also includes part of the Duchy of Luxembourg, the Electorate of Trier and the Duchy of Deux-Ponts. It is probably the handwritten map that served as a model for the later engraved map, entitled "Département de la Moselle Divided into Nine Districts Increased by a Part of the Neighboring Departments and the Foreign Countries Limitrophes. By Jean Miromenil Dessinateur des Ponts et Chaussées". The departments were created by the decree of December 22, 1789 taken by the Constituent Assembly.
