Carved wooden Virgin and Child, rough back, part of an altar - Lot 150
Carved wooden Virgin and Child, rough back, part of an altarpiece for the Adoration of the Magi or the Shepherds. Mary holds her naked Son in her arms, clasped to her face and bosom. Her long, wavy hair falls to her shoulders and back, and she is dressed in a robe and mantle with borders embellished with gold trim. Numerous broken, highly architectural folds cover her feet and the lower part of her body. A beautiful face with a particularly gentle, peaceful expression, with half-closed eyes and a tight-lipped mouth that seems to be cradling the Child. South Moravia, circa 1520 Height: 52 cm Length: 29.5 cm Expert: Benoît BERTRAND
